Xeomin
IncobotulinumtoxinA | Pure toxin, protein complex-free
About This Treatment
Xeomin (Merz, Germany) is IncobotulinumtoxinA—the only botulinum toxin A without accessory proteins (complexing proteins). Called "naked toxin," it contains only active ingredient, theoretically lowering antibody formation risk.
Smallest molecular size due to lack of complex. Diffusion range between Botox/Dysport. Efficacy equals Botox with potentially lower antibody-related efficacy reduction.
Mechanism of Action
IncobotulinumtoxinA cleaves same SNAP-25 site as other BoNT-A toxins, so mechanism is identical. However, absence of complexing proteins reduces immune system's chance to recognize foreign matter. Theoretically lower neutralizing antibody formation, though clinical significance not yet confirmed.
Indications
Expected Results
Equivalent efficacy to Botox. Onset 3-5 days, peak 2-4 weeks, duration 3-4 months. Advantage: theoretically lower antibody-related efficacy reduction.
Clinical Evidence
Risks & Side Effects
Injection pain/swelling/bruising. Brow ptosis and dry eye risk equivalent to Botox. Antibody-related efficacy reduction theoretically lower, though clinical significance unconfirmed.
