ULTRACOL PDO Microsphere Filler

Korean PDO microsphere booster for gradual skin-quality, wrinkle, and fold improvement

Duration
20-30 min
Downtime
1-5 days
Sessions
2-3 sessions (4 wk intervals)

About This Treatment

ULTRACOL is a Korean biostimulator that reformulates polydioxanone (PDO), a material widely known from absorbable threads, into injectable microspheres. Rather than acting as an instant volumizer like a classic HA filler, it is positioned more as a skin-quality procedure for rough texture, fine lines, nasolabial-fold skin quality, and early loss of firmness.

In Korea and nearby markets it sits alongside PN, PDLLA, and HA boosters as a newer regenerative category, but product preparation, dilution, injection depth, and particle handling are critical to both outcomes and safety. It is conceptually distinct from thread placement because it relies on microsphere scaffolding and gradual collagen remodeling during PDO hydrolysis.

Mechanism of Action

Uniform PDO microspheres act as a scaffold in the dermis to superficial subcutis, stimulating surrounding fibroblast activity and collagen formation. Because PDO hydrolyzes gradually over time, the treatment is designed for progressive changes in skin density, elasticity, and wrinkle appearance over weeks to months rather than immediate expansion. Poor particle suspension or wrong depth can increase the risk of nodules or irregularity.

Expected Results

A clinical study of ULTRACOL200 reported significant improvement in skin texture and wrinkle volume after two sessions in 31 participants. A comparative ULTRACOL100 study reported reductions in roughness, transepidermal water loss, and pore size with increases in elasticity, hydration, transparency, and density. The expected result is gradual skin-quality improvement over 2-3 sessions rather than dramatic instant contour change.

Risks & Side Effects

Swelling, bruising, redness, papules, nodules, textural irregularity, infection, and asymmetry may occur. Unlike HA fillers, reversal is not straightforward, so superficial placement or overcorrection requires careful counseling because of the higher nodule and irregularity risk.
