About This Treatment
Spironolactone is an antiandrogenic diuretic used off-label for female hormonal acne, sebum excess and female pattern hair loss, often to reduce prolonged antibiotic use or support minoxidil therapy.
Pregnancy, potassium, renal function, blood pressure and menstrual side effects must be managed.
Mechanism of Action
Androgen receptor antagonism and related antiandrogen effects reduce sebum signaling and may support hair follicles in FPHL.
Indications
Expected Results
Acne is assessed after 8-12 weeks and hair after 6-12 months. Combination with retinoids, BPO, minoxidil or hormonal contraception may be considered.

Menstrual irregularity, breast tenderness, dizziness, hypotension, hyperkalemia and renal issues may occur. Avoid in pregnancy/planning.
