About This Treatment

RF (radiofrequency) microneedling combined with PRP (autologous platelet-rich plasma growth factors) protocol is an innovative treatment designed to overcome melasma's treatment-refractory nature. Melasma is complex pigmentary disorder involving UV, hormones, and genetic predisposition with characteristically poor response to single modality therapy. RF microneedling delivers radiofrequency energy selectively to dermis via insulated needles, reducing melanocyte activity while stimulating fibroblasts to promote collagen regeneration. Simultaneous PRP application and delivery promotes skin regeneration via growth factors (PDGF, FGF, TGF-β, VEGF), suppressing melanin production while restoring skin barrier function and improving skin quality.

Mechanism of Action

RF microneedling perforates skin with insulated needles (0.5-2.0mm), selectively delivering radiofrequency energy (400-1000kHz) to dermis from needle tips. This energy heats dermal tissue, damaging melanocyte mitochondria and suppressing melanin production. Simultaneously, fibroblasts are thermally activated, increasing procollagen-1 and TIMP-1 production, promoting collagen regeneration. Alpha-granules in PRP (PDGF, FGF, TGF-β, VEGF, HGF) and other growth factors promote wound healing cascade, restore epithelial barrier function (claudin-1, occludin), and promote regulatory T cell (Treg) differentiation further suppressing melanin production. This multimodal effect achieves fundamental melasma improvement.

Indications

Pigmentation / dullnessGeneral indication (see detailed description)post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation

Expected Results

Melasma color markedly lightens 4-8 weeks post-treatment; ~60-70% of patients achieve >70% improvement by 3 months. Multiple sessions (4-6 course) yield more pronounced and sustained improvement. Recurrence risk reduced compared to conventional therapy.

Risks & Side Effects

Temporary erythema and swelling typically resolve within 3-5 days. Hyperpigmentation rare but risk increases in darker skin. Burns and scarring minimized with proper settings and technique. Sun protection essential.
