PLEXR Plasma Exeresis

Incision-free plasma treatment for mild upper-lid laxity and periocular wrinkling

Duration
20-40 min
Downtime
5-10 days
Sessions
1-3 sessions (6-8 wk intervals)

About This Treatment

PLEXR is GMV’s Italian plasma-exeresis platform. As of 2025-2026, especially in Europe, it still has meaningful demand among patients who want a non-incisional option for mild upper-lid laxity, hooding, crow’s feet, and fine excess periocular skin, but are not ready for surgery.

It should not be positioned as a substitute for formal blepharoplasty when true skin excess, fat prolapse, or significant ptosis is present. GMV states distribution in more than 40 countries and more than 40 peer-reviewed publications, so this is better treated as an internationally established niche modality rather than a fleeting gimmick.

Mechanism of Action

A controlled micro-plasma arc is generated through a potential difference between the device and skin, causing pinpoint sublimation of the superficial epidermal layer. The intended effect is immediate tissue contraction followed by wound-healing-based collagen remodeling over weeks to months. Energy remains superficial, but overly dense treatment raises the risk of PIH and prolonged erythema.

Expected Results

Results are usually assessed over 1-3 sessions, with tightening becoming clearer after crusts shed and remodeling progresses over the following weeks. Product-specific pilot work showed upper-eyelid collagen remodeling and clinical improvement, and a 2025 PLEXR case series reported MRD improvement in mild-to-moderate ptosis. However, satisfaction is not as consistently high as with surgery, so expectations must stay conservative when structural excess skin is present.

Risks & Side Effects

Redness, edema, crusting, burning sensation, and several days to about a week of visible downtime are expected. Less common risks include PIH, infection, scarring, asymmetry, ectropion-like change, and dryness. Selection must be strict in darker skin, stronger laxity, fat prolapse, or true ptosis.
